More than a fire helmet:
CairnsHELMETS® hats set standards for the Fire Service

Most firefighters pull up to a scene and hit the ground running. There's no time to worry about how well their protective equipment will perform.

If they're wearing a CairnsHELMET Fire Helmet from MSA, they are covered by a high-quality, technologically advanced head protection system. The helmets of choice for approximately 65% of all firefighters, CairnsHELMETS set the standards that other hats aspire to.

"Nothing performs like a CairnsHELMET," remarked John Green, product line manager (and firefighter who has worn this brand for 20 years). "Lots of helmets on the market don't even come close to what we have to offer.

"Firefighters keep coming back to us for two simple reasons -- we make the best helmets on the market, and we have the broadest selection to choose from. When firefighters select CairnHELMETS, they get what they pay for -- top-quality protection every time."

Designed as a complete head protection system, CairnsHELMETS are engineered to absorb impacts and deflect debris away from a firefighter's head. Most models are equipped with an impact cap that's held in place by breakaway tabs. Aside from providing exceptional impact protection, the tab design ensures that a firefighter will not be restrained by his or her helmet if footing becomes uncertain.

"The tabs on the helmet allow the outer shell to release from the inner impact cap if the helmet should encounter upward forces that exceed 80 lbs.," observed Green. "By engineering this release mechanism into our helmets, we help minimize the likelihood of neck injuries if a firefighter should suddenly fall through a floor. The breakaway design also allows firefighters to escape dangerous scenes if their helmet becomes entangled in debris."

A unique tube system around the perimeter of the impact cap amplifies the effectiveness of the helmet. Instead of allowing the internal suspension system to "bottom out" during an impact, a segment of tubing attached to the suspension compresses to transfer impact energy away from the wearer's head. Energy is redirected to the top and sides of the cap, significantly reducing the likelihood of head injury.

CairnsHELMETS hats also offer excellent thermal protection. Equipped with a low-profile Kevlar liner, the helmets help protect firefighters from excessive heat exposure. All CairnsHELMETS are covered by a 5-year shell warranty, which means if your helmet is damaged on the job, MSA will replace it free of charge.
