Ground Zero
What is MSA doing to help?

Within minutes of the terrorist attacks, all of MSA's efforts were focused on providing equipment to workers at all three sites of destruction. That day, trucks from MSA sped to the disaster sites with more than $3 million worth of respirators, gas masks, TICs, hardhats, fire helmets, fall protection equipment, and instruments.

Since then, MSA has continuously manufactured and shipped much-needed safety equipment and supported onsite workers. Dozens of MSA employees in manufacturing, sales, and service areas have worked day and night-a number of them at Ground Zero, helping rescue workers choose, use, and maintain appropriate protective equipment properly.

Despite intensified production of products like respirators, with four shifts working nonstop, we quickly had to reprioritize existing orders, and we thank our customers who have had to wait for their orders to be filled.

MSA and another Pittsburgh corporation have each donated special "United We Stand" V-Gard Caps to emergency non-profit organizations such as the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. A special MSA Company charitable fund will channel many thousands of corporate and individual employee dollars to benefit the victims' families.

As Chairman and CEO John T. Ryan III expressed in a letter to MSA employees, "We were and are in a position to do something--to make a difference--to those in need. . . . This is what our predecessors have done here at MSA in times of national crisis for the last 87 years, particularly during World War II. Our products and our hearts--there are no others that can match them."
