MSA SafetyWorks® 4000
TIC on HGTV
While demonstrating MSAs new TIC (thermal imaging camera)
being marketed for consumer use through home improvement retailers,
Earl Morris got his 15 minutes of fame on TV.
Although he was only one of thousands of vendors at the National
Hardware Show 2000 in Chicago (August 2000), MSAs industrial
TIC sales manager was among the lucky few to be featured on HGTVs
(Home & Garden Television) hour-long special, which aired
early in October 2000.
As Earl explained, MSA Safety Works (MSAs consumer/retail
division) does not expect consumers to buy the expensive, technologically
advanced tool. They can rent it, for example, to detect insulation
loss, inspect a radiant heating system in floors for possible
irregularities, and pinpoint HVAC problems, in their homes.
The store will purchase the TIC (called the MSA Safety
Works 4000 TIC) and rent it to their customers, much like
consumers rent a floor sander or a commercial carpet-cleaning
vacuum from home maintenance businesses.
Earls demonstration was simple but awe-inspiring. He briefly
pressed his hand into the carpet, transferring his body heat to
it. Using the camera, we could see that heat as a light handprint
against the dark carpet!
This just in! The Safety Works 4000 TIC was selected as a finalist
for product of the year by readers of Plant Engineering
magazine!
