Cleveland Indians’ first baseman Jim Thome

Cleveland Indians’ first baseman Jim Thome didn’t wear a batting helmet when he stepped to the plate for New York firefighters. Instead, he donned an MSA CairnsHELMETS® New Yorker leather fire helmet presented to him by Chief Bob Fisher of the Cleveland Fire Department.

As winner of the 2001 Roberto Clemente/John Hancock Community Award, Thome picked the New York Firefighters 911 Disaster Relief Fund to receive a $2500 donation is his name.
