Here are 5 true SAVE
stories, made possible by workers who were wearing their hardhats when
the hazards hit their
heads. These men were honored recently with Gold Helmet Awards from MSA.
- Joel
was picking up a hog that had fallen off the roller onto the floor.
As he bent
down, the roller came off
the rail, and as it fell, it struck
Joel on the back of his head. Because he was wearing
his MSA V-Gard® Cap
at the time of the accident, Joel escaped with only
a bump on his head.
- Jose
was driving his pickup truck when it was struck from behind by
another vehicle.
Jose’s head hit
the steering wheel, but a possible head injury was prevented
because he was wearing
his MSA V-Gard Helmet
at the
time of this incident.
- Keith
was opening a job box, when he was struck on the head by a 30’ wide-body
tape measurer that fell from 60’ above.
He avoided a head injury during this incident
by wearing
his hardhat.
- Kenneth
was working on the rig floor when a 12-inch adjustable wrench that
a derrick man
dropped from a height of about
75
feet struck Kenneth on his head, above the eyebrow. At the
time of the accident, Kenneth
was wearing
his MSA full-brim
V-Gard Hat and a pair of safety glasses. These
two pieces of safety equipment
came between him and that
potentially
fatal blow.
- Kevin
was taking the product from the hot line conveyor back to the wagon.
When walking through a 4’ x 4’ opening, he struck his
head on a lug welded on the top of the door. Had Kevin not been
wearing his MSA V-Gard
